Welcome to the Harry T. Burleigh Society

For years, Charles Kennedy, Jr., president of the Burleigh Society, has had great success introducing Mr. Burleigh to students at all grade levels.  He is a rostered artist for the Pennsylvania Arts in Education program.  His latest program is I Can Be A Hero.

Charles say, "For years I've been studying the concept of heroism and especially how to teach young people to be heroes. I met often with a good friend, who also loves Burleigh, Admiral (Ret.) Charles Curtze, who had several heroic adventures during his 93 years.

"What I finally realized is, to prepare to be a hero all we need to do is follow the words of one of Burleigh's Spirituals - Keep Yo Hand on the Plow an Hold On. And the children get it! It's wonderful to see the lights come on. Of course when I was in Maine I had to explain that it wasn't a snow plow!"
